(Q) Why should I buy a solid surface countertop?
(A) Solid surface countertops enhance the beauty and resale value of your home. Depending on the location where you live,
solid surface countertops retain between 84 - 100% of your investment. What's more, solid
surface countertops:
- Offer a large choice of colors not available with other materials.
- Offer a 10-year warranty.
- Are renewable and repairable.
- Integral undermounted sink provision.
- Non-porous.
- Ability to customize.
- No sealing required.
(Q) Where can I see the range of available colors?
(A) Once again, we direct you to the manufacturer's website. They are always changing colors and their websites should be the most up-to-date resource.
You may access these websites by going to our Products page and clicking
on the logo or name of the manufacturer you need. Once you've selected your color, e-mail AvCore at info@avcorecountertops.com
and we'll have actual samples sent to your home.
(Q) Are some colors harder to maintain than others?
(A) YES! Depending on the circumstances, some dark colors may require additional maintenance or attention. All solid surface countertops can be scratched and the darker colors tend to show the
scratches more than lighter colors. Nonetheless, unlike other countertops, solid surface countertops can always be renewed and/or repaired. (See FAQ below dealing with surface finishes).
(Q) What surface finishes can be ordered?
(A) You can order the following finishes:
- MATTE - This is a sanded finish with or without a very minimal sheen depending on color.
It is the standard for most kitchen countertop applications as it is the easiest to maintain.
- SATIN - This is a sanded finish with a low to medium luster. It will require
more maintenance that a MATTE finish and less than a GLOSS finish.
- GLOSS - this is a sanded and polished finish. It will
require additional maintenance in a kitchen or high traffic area. Some brands or
colors respond better to gloss finishing than others. Dark colors respond better to a GLOSS
finish but will require more care and maintenance. (Note: Consider a gloss finish for bath
vanities and wet bar-type applications.)
(Q) How do I clean my countertops?
(A) Because all countertop materials have different properties, it's best to refer to the specific manufacturers' instructions.
All of the material manufacturers used by AvCore have their own websites and post these cleaning instructions somewhere in the site. You may access these websites by going to our Products page and clicking
on the logo or name of the manufacturer you need. If you still cannot get the information
you're seeking after visiting the website, please e-mail AvCore at info@avcorecountertops.com.
(Q) Can I put hot items directly onto my countertop?
(A) NO! Actually, you should not put "hot" items on any countertop material.
A trivet should be used under hot items. But remember, solid surface countertops are the only
countertops that can be repaired if damaged from hot items.
(Q) Can I cut on my countertop?
(A) NO! It damages both the countertop and your knives. Actually, you should not "cut" on any countertop material.
It is advisable to always use a cutting board. But remember, solid surface countertops are the only countertops that can be renewed or repaired
if damaged by sharp objects.
(Q) What is the warranty that comes with my countertop?
(A) All material manufacturers represented by AvCore provide a 10 year warranty on material and a 10 year fabrication and
installation warranty when the work is performed by a certified fabricator. AvCore is your certified (CFI) fabricator; therefore,
you'll receive the 10 year warranty.
(Q) How long does the actual in-house countertop installation take?
(A) AvCore's professional team of installers will be in and out of your home in less than a day.
(Q) What happens to my old countertop(s)?
(A) AvCore will disconnect existing plumbing, remove the old countertop and assume responsibility for disposal -- all at a nominal charge.
(Q) Who is responsible for drilling the countertop holes for fixtures (plumbing and electrical)?
(A) AvCore will drill for all plumbing and appliance fixtures at the time of countertop installation; however, all fixtures
MUST be on the location site and someone must be available who's authorized to advise AvCore on fixture placements.
(Q) After my countertop(s) are installed, what are my responsibilities?
(A) Generally, you're responsible for contracting with a plumber to connect all plumbing (including the dishwasher) and an
electrician to reconnect appliances (e.g., cook tops, etc...).
(Q) How deep can my countertop overhang (e.g., for snack bar, etc...) without requiring additional support?
(A) All solid surface manufacturers will allow (under warranty conditions) overhangs up to 12" without additional support. Anything
beyond 12" requires additional support such as brackets, legs, etc...
